Voting problems
On this page you will find information on the most frequent voting problems. Regarding the various mailing problems, we provide three sample letters for contacting your electoral commune.
Please note the following: If the official voting papers are delayed due to late delivery by the local postal service of the country of residence, it is not possible for Switzerland to intervene.
Undeliverability
If the official voting papers could not be delivered to you on three occasions, your name will be removed from the electoral register. However, you can re-register again at any time. To do so, complete the Voting application form.
Late delivery of documents by the local commune
For some time, the official voting papers have arrived too late at your place of residence abroad. It can be seen from the postmark that your polling commune only dispatched the papers after the prescribed period of five weeks before the day of voting. In this case, you can send your polling commune sample letter A to ensure that this does not happen again in upcoming elections and votes.
Incorrect shipping method by the commune
For some time, the official voting papers have arrived too late at your place of residence abroad. According to the postmark, your commune complied with the delivery deadline of five weeks before the day of voting. The official voting papers were, however, sent to you by B mail (economy / not priority). In this case, you can send your polling commune sample letter B to ensure that this does not happen again in upcoming elections and votes.
Language of the official voting papers
The official voting papers for the federal elections and votes are only available in the official national languages German, French, Italian and Rhaeto-Romanic. You can freely choose between these languages. For cantonal elections and votes, however, you only have the right to request the papers in one of the official languages of the canton.
If your commune sent you the official voting papers in the wrong language and it is now too late to receive them in time in your mother tongue, you can send your polling commune sample letter C so that this does not happen again in upcoming elections and votes.
