Ukraine: Recommended procedure for Swiss Abroad

The Russian attack on Ukraine is endangering the lives, safety and future of people living in the country, including Swiss nationals. The Organisation of the Swiss Abroad is in close contact with the FDFA and is committed to a rapid exchange of information.

Since February 24, Ukraine has been under the merciless assault of the Russian army. The population is trembling for its future which has suddenly become uncertain. To face the magnitude of the humanitarian crisis that is looming, we appeal to your solidarity with the Ukrainian population. Your donation makes a difference. Thank you for your support.

Situation in Ukraine: Recommended procedure (as of 28 February 2022):

  • Swiss nationals are advised to look for an opportunity to leave the country on their own initiative if this appears possible and safe.
  • Otherwise, it is recommended to stay in a safe place.
  • The instructions of the local authorities must be followed and the necessary precautions taken.
  • The FDFA is evaluating further possibilities to support or organise departures from the country. The FDFA can be reached by telephone on the following helplines: +41 800 24-7-365 and +41 58 465 33 33. Up-to-date information is available on the website and on a FDFA news page.
  • For any assistance, it is essential that the persons concerned are known to the FDFA. This applies to officially registered Swiss citizens abroad. Non-registered persons must register and update their journey or stay in the Travel Admin System and contact the FDFA helpline.
  • Due to the threatening security situation in Kyiv, the Swiss Embassy is temporarily closed.

The Russian attack on Ukraine is a violation of international law, sovereignty and territorial integrity of a democratic country. The Organisation of the Swiss Abroad is concerned for the people of Ukraine, including around 270 Swiss nationals (SWI swissinfo.ch, 25 February 2022, in German).

We, the Organisation of the Swiss Abroad, are committed to a rapid exchange of information and are in close contact with the Federal Department of Foreign Affairs (FDFA) and other institutions. We use all available means to provide helpful information to affected persons as quickly as possible and to help them to be safe.

Swiss Abroad and Swiss associations in neighbouring countries

The members of the Council of the Swiss Abroad (CSA) and the Swiss associations in neighbouring countries are supporting Swiss people leaving Ukraine or Russia by land as much as possible.

The Organisation of the Swiss Abroad (OSA), SwissCommunity, would like to thank all Swiss Abroad for their help in any form and their sympathy regarding the refugees from Ukraine.
