New "Artist in Residence" in Brunnen: Nat Cartier receives artist’s grant
Nat Cartier, a Swiss artist living abroad, has been awarded this year's scholarship as "Artist in Residence" at the Square of the Swiss Abroad in Brunnen. Cartier beat off competition from eight other applicants and impressed the six-member jury of the Square of the Swiss Abroad foundation with his talents as a performing artist, producer and songwriter.
Third award already
The "Artist in Residence" scholarship was awarded for the third time this February, after 2016 and 2017. In contrast to previous years, where the scholarship was awarded specifically for landscape painting and music composition, this year's scholarship did not include a specific art genre in order to appeal to young Swiss artists abroad in particular.
Cartier wants to rediscover Switzerland
The musician, who lives in Edinburgh, Scotland, and holds Swiss, British and American citizenship, is active in many modern music genres, which he describes collectively as NEO. The scholarship will enable him to rediscover Switzerland and use his art to raise awareness of the things you miss when you live abroad. It is also hoped the residency will inspire the young Swiss expatriate to create new compositions and promote collaboration with Swiss artists.
Vernissage at the anniversary celebrations
Nat Cartier will be working at the Swiss Abroad Square in Brunnen from 13 July to 18 August 2024. The vernissage will feature on the programme of 100th Congress of the Swiss Abroad anniversary celebrations.
